Saturday Farmers' Market 9am-1pm  

The 14th & U Streets Farmers' Market returns on May 2, 2009, for the third summer in a row, on the sidewalk in front of the Reeves Center.  From the MHNA Listserv:

Controlling Mosquitoes

It's that time of year again.
Mosquitoes are not only a nuisance, but may also carry many diseases including St. Louis encephalitis, eastern equine encephalitis, West Nile Virus, and dog heartworm. Several important species breed around the home. This information describes the life cycle and habits of the most common pest mosquitoes, and suggests several ways to eliminate breeding sites. Also, it explains the safe use of insect repellents, and lists additional mosquito web sites for more information.

Operation Fix-It

Operation Fix-It is Mayor Fenty’s multi-agency initiative aimed at abating areas where crime, blight, and compliance issues require participation from more than one DC Government agency. “Fix-Its” are coordinated weekly and cover a 2-3 block radius with services including graffiti removal, street cleaning, alley repair, weed trimming, trash removal, abandoned auto removal, and building inspection. 
 
Fix-Its in Ward 2 are coordinated by Andrew Huff and Francisco Fimbres of the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations & Services (MOCRS).
