Excitement Grows for the D.C. Marketplace

DC Marketplace is coming to the Meridian Hill Neighborhood.  See the press release information below and get ready for this exciting (and tasty) event!

Four Consecutive Weekends of Artesian Foods, Arts & Crafts, Produce and more...

August 20th - September 11th 2011

The DC Market Place is coming to the 14th & U Street corridor & Meridian Hill neighborhood NW for 4 consecutive weekends starting on August 20, 2011.  It will offer an array of unique arts & crafts, great artisan foods, produce and more on Saturdays & Sundays from 10am-4pm. 

The DC Market Place will focus on artisan vendors.  The food selections will include onsite prepared foods, homemade food delights such as cakes & chocolates, gourmet prepackage foods, home-crafted dips, rubs, spices & sauces, in addition to an array of coffees, teas & other drinks.  There will also be a daily rotation of vendors to keep the daily selections fresh for customers.

DC Market Place will be located at the small parking lot at the corner of 14th & W Streets NW in the Meridian Hill neighborhood right next to the Gas Station & Fast Gourmet Restaurant and is just up a block from Busboy & Poets. 

DC Market Place is produced by Chef Kenac Productions.  For over 2 decades the winning formula at Chef Kenac Productions has been its creativeness...attention to detail...organization skills and dedication, as well as their unrelenting passion for excellence.  The Market is also a collaborative effort with the Meridian Hill Neighborhood Association and sponsored by ZIPCar.

Revised plans for apartment building at 15th & V‏

Revised rendering submitted to the Historic Preservation Office 8-9-2011

On August 9, 2011, developer Jair Lynch Development Partners met with the DC Historic Preservation Office and submitted its revised plans for the 9-story apartment building at 15th & V Streets, NW.  Plans, including sample floors plans and renderings, are available here in pdf (10.2MB).  

Sample floor planAt the meeting the Historic Preservation Office asked Jair Lynch to make additional revisions to comply with requirements governing new construction in historic neighborhoods. The apartment building would be located within the U Street Historic District.  Jair Lynch is scheduled to appear before the Historic Preservation Review Board on September 22, 2011. 

MHNA seeks comments from members regarding the planned construction of this apartment building.

Living City Fundraiser this Thursday, July 21st!

Living City Block , DC is working throughout the Meridian Hill Neighborhood boundaries to help the Neighborhood move towards a more sustainable future.  Their initiative is materializing  through various projects, one of them being the Community Garden at Dunbar Towers (formerly the Campbell Heights Building at 15th and U Streets NW).  The Community Gardens will be constructed on the grounds of the Dunbar Towers Building this July 23rd to create a space for residents and the Community to gather.  The Community Garden will also offer senior residents of the Dunbar Towers Building  access to green space and fresh flowers and vegetables in what is now an underutilized space.  For more information about this project and others visit their website.

The project is being partnered through the Paul Laurence Dunbar Residents Association, DC Greenworks, Jair Lynch Development Partners, and Living City D.C.  

Living City Block is hosting a fundraiser to benefit the new Community Garden this Thursday, July 21st from 6-9pm at the new Blackbird Warehouse at 14th and U St., NW.  A $10 donation gets you a free drink and a chance to check out the Neighborhoods newest space while supporting your local community!
